Informational Update For Sebring 2018 Drone Race

With Sebring 2018 fast approaching, here is an update on some of the specifics of the  Sebring 2018 Drone Race.  

Flying Venue

The Sebring 2018 track will be outdoors, as originally stated. In the last few days, there were several rumors that arose in regards to track specifics: whether a top net was required if the track would be moved indoors, and cancellation.

  1. The event is not canceled.
  2. The event will not be held indoors.
  3. The track will have the appropriate safety wall netting, but there will be no top net.

Part 101 Event

The Sebring Drone Race will be under FAA Part 101 regulations and will be held in accordance with Subpart E – Special Rule for Model Aircraft (101.41).  

Prize Purse

The prize purse for the Sebring 2018 Drone Race are as follows:

  • $20,000 Prize Purse for Individual Competition – Purse total based on pilot participation
  • $20,000 Prize Purse for Team Competition – Purse total based on pilot participation

Pilot Cap

In order to keep the logistical procedure of the event running smoothly a maximum pilot registration number has been established.

  • Individual Competition – 124 pilots
  • Team Competition – 20 Teams

Proposed Schedule

This proposed schedule has been created in light of the Sunrise to Sunset FAA requirements. The schedule has been modified to assure that the adequate number of heats can be run.

 

Wednesday, January 24th

9am-6pm – Individual Open Practice, 5-pack limit (Tablet System), No Groundstations Provided

9am-6pm – Tech Inspections (All in attendance)

 

Thursday, January 25th

7am-8am – Tech Inspections Group A

8am-10: 30 am – Individual Qualifying Rounds Group A (Tablet System, 3-pack Limit)

9:30am-10: 30 am – Tech Inspections Group B

10:30am-1pm – Individual Qualifying Rounds Group B (Tablet System, 3-pack Limit)

12pm-1pm – Tech Inspections Group C

1pm-3: 30 pm – Individual Qualifying Rounds Group C (Tablet System, 3-pack Limit)

3:30pm – 5:45pm – Team Racing Practice (2 x 15 minute practice sessions)

 

Friday, January 26th

7am-8am – Tech Inspections (Late Arrivals)

8am-10: 30 am – Individual Qualifying Rounds Group A (Tablet System, 3-pack Limit)

10:30am-1pm – Individual Qualifying Rounds Group B (Tablet System, 3-pack Limit)

1pm-3: 30 pm – Individual Qualifying Rounds Group C (Tablet System, 3-pack Limit)

3:30pm – 5:45pm – Team Racing Qualifying (2 x 15 minute sessions)

 

Saturday, January 27th

9am-11am – Top 64 Practice Rounds x 2

11:30 am – Team Racing Championship

12:30 pm – Top-64 Double Elimination Bracket

 

Sunday, January 28th

Rain Date
