Get ready for 901FPV to bring a little bit of Memphis chaos to the International Open! If you thought drone racing was just about “aerodynamics” and “concentration,” you clearly haven’t seen these guys run a Spec race.

The 901FPV Spec Manifesto:

(Or: How to Go Fast While Everything Is On Fire)

  • The “Memphis Start”: Forget the countdown. The race starts when someone yells “SEND IT” over the sound of a blues guitar solo.
  • The Spec Rulebook:
    • It’s basically just one page that says “If it flies and smells like burnt electronics, it’s legal.”..or 7″ Quad Running PRO Spec Firmware
    •  Weight Requirements: Your drone must be heavy enough to survive a mid-air collision with a stray rack of ribs, but light enough to outrun the inevitable consequences of your own flight path.
    • The Pit Crew: Mostly consists of people asking if you “saw that sick crash” while accidentally soldering their own thumbs together.
    • Victory Lap: Winners don’t get a trophy; they get the “Golden Battery,” which is just a puffed 4S pack spray-painted glitter-gold and taped to a brick.

“901FPV: We aren’t here for the podium; we’re here to make sure the spectator net earns its keep.”

Come for the Spec racing, stay for the fireworks that may or may not have been authorized by local authorities! It’s going to be loud, it’s going to be messy, and there’s a 100% chance someone tries to power-loop the moon.

Think you have what it takes to be the fastest pilot to build their racing drone from scratch and race it around the World Cup track?! This race rewards the fastest builders with a chance to show off both their build and flying skills, and everyone who competes keeps their drones to fly for the rest of IO and beyond! This race will once again be hosted by Eric “SegFPV” Gever on Thursday, June 11 at 6:00pm. The complete set of rules are available to review here:

Let’s race!  The idea for the group races is that using predetermined data we can group pilots to provide more actual drone racing at IO then drone qualifying.  When the group races are scheduled to start, there is no qualifying or practice, it’s RACE TIME!  So be at the track 30 minutes early to check in!

Requirements:

  • 800g or less
  • No battery limit.
  • No prop limit

Qualifying Heats:

  • None

Format:

  • Triple run mains,  to a final main
  • 2-3 Lap Race
  • Pilots are randomly assigned into one of 6 subgroups of up to 8 pilots.
  • Each subgroup will race 3 times. The winner of the subgroup will be determined by combined finishing position in all 3 races. The tie-breaker is the pilot with the  best single finishing position (1-2-3, beats a 2-2-2) . If there is still a tie, then the best laps/time from the best finishing position run is the final tie breaker
  • Subgroup winners will advance to the A-Main event for 3 races, which will follow the same format to determine the winner of this group race.
